The Grey seal (Halichoerus grypus), also known as the
Atlantic seal, has coat colour varying from grey to brown to
silver, often with blotches. The males have a long arched
roman nose. If you catch them ashore
you can sometimes approach close enough
to take startling photographs. It is rare to get as
close as the young lady in the photograph below, but if you
don't frighten them, it's possible to approach surprisingly
close to them. Obviously, don't take the dogs with you or
the seals will be gone even if you manage to find them.
